Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has defended the 2025 budget, calling it one of Ghana’s most credible financial plans. In an interview with TV3 on March 14, he dismissed criticisms from the opposition NPP, blaming their economic growth on illegal mining (galamsey), which he deemed unsustainable.
He accused the previous government of financial mismanagement, including Ghana’s first-ever domestic bond default. Dr. Forson highlighted a GHC28 billion allocation to clear energy sector debts, stressing the urgency of stabilizing the sector.
He also urged the opposition to acknowledge its role in Ghana’s economic struggles. As Parliament prepares to review the budget, his comments set the stage for intense debate.
