Economic policy analyst Senyo Hosi has urged Ghanaians to move beyond political blame and actively contribute to the country’s economic recovery.
Speaking on The Key Points with Alfred Ocansey on March 15, Hosi emphasized the need for practical solutions, urging citizens and political parties to propose and debate actionable strategies rather than engage in partisan criticism.
He also criticized widespread tax evasion, pointing out that many Ghanaians expect government services while avoiding their tax obligations. “We talk, we talk, we don’t do. Let’s be proper citizens… not spectators, not talkers,” he urged.
On national debt transparency, Hosi raised concerns about the lack of full disclosure in government budgets. He stressed that Ghana’s financial credibility is undermined when key institutions like COCOBOD and ECG are excluded from the debt presentation, despite their significance in assessments by organizations like the IMF.
Addressing the Electronic Levy (E-Levy), Hosi argued that instead of scrapping it, the government should have redesigned it for better accountability and compliance. He called for a tax system that incentivizes proper filing while penalizing evasion, ensuring fairer revenue generation.
