Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama of the Bank of Ghana has announced that the 2025 budget will introduce targeted measures to tackle food inflation, a primary contributor to the nation’s rising overall inflation.
Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg, Dr. Asiama explained that recent inflation readings were higher than expected due to structural issues in food prices.
He stressed that the upcoming budget statement should present initiatives to contain food inflation, which he believes will help steer inflation back toward its target path.
Additionally, he mentioned that the Monetary Policy Committee is scheduled to meet next month to review economic conditions and adjust policies accordingly. These steps are seen as critical in addressing persistent inflationary pressures and stabilizing Ghana’s economy.
