A legacy of excellence: The transformational journey of Kwaku Yeboah-Asuamah at miLife Insurance Ltd (2016–2025)

In December 2015, Ghana’s insurance industry saw a significant change. LeapFrog Investments, a global private equity firm, acquired miLife Insurance.

Their goal was clear: to bring innovation and capital to the business. They aimed for both financial success and social impact.

In January 2016, Kwaku Yeboah-Asuamah became the new CEO. He had over two decades of experience in insurance and finance. Kwaku brought expertise, vision, discipline, and heart to the role.

Over the next nine years, remarkable changes took place at miLife.

A Remarkable Transformation

Under Kwaku’s leadership, miLife grew rapidly. In 2016, their annual premium income was under GH¢20 million. By the end of 2024, it reached GH¢406 million—a growth of 21 times. The company rebranded as miLife Insurance during this period.

This growth was not by chance. Kwaku led a review of product offerings to meet Ghanaians' needs. He expanded distribution channels through partnerships with mobile operators and community groups. Sales productivity also improved significantly.

As a result, new business increased thirty-onefold from 12,138 policies in 2016 to 375,535 in 2024.

Working with LeapFrog

miLife implemented many initiatives with LeapFrog's support. These included rebranding efforts and improvements in customer service and employee development.

Profitability also improved significantly between 2016 and 2024. miLife recorded cumulative underwriting profits of GHS 81 million and operating profits of GHS 97 million. Assets Under Management grew from modest beginnings to GHS 459 million by December 2024.

Climbing the Ranks

These results helped miLife gain a stronger presence in Ghana's competitive market. It is now among the top five life insurers in the country.

A Digital Edge with Purpose

Kwaku promoted technology as a tool for inclusion and efficiency. Under his leadership, miLife launched transformative systems like Adepa for sales and Mankrado for claims automation.

They also introduced Ohemaa—a web portal and AI chatbot for customer support. These innovations reduced errors and sped up processes while enhancing customer engagement.

Kwaku ingrained digital innovation into miLife’s culture. Technology became essential for impact, especially in micro-insurance products like miWay and miFuture.

Putting Customers First

Kwaku emphasized staying connected with customers from day one. He regularly visited clients across Ghana to listen to their stories and build trust.

He believed that “insurance is only as valuable as it is understood.” This belief shaped miLife’s customer education strategy through various outreach efforts.

His hands-on approach set miLife apart from competitors while fostering a culture focused on customer engagement.

A Culture of People and Purpose

Kwaku fostered an organizational culture prioritizing employee engagement and satisfaction. He viewed people as a company's greatest asset; his leadership reflected this belief consistently.

miLife’s culture entropy scores improved under his tenure—from 9% in 2019 to just 5% in 2022—indicating high employee engagement levels.

Through transparent communication and staff development investments, Kwaku built more than just a company; he created an environment where excellence could thrive.

A Growing Footprint Today

Today, miLife serves over 1.3 million Ghanaians. In just one year (2024), they paid out GHS184 million in claims when families needed help most.

Their product range includes funeral plans, education plans, endowment plans, and income protection options tailored for individuals or groups.

Flagship offerings like miTribute are accessible through agents or digital platforms across urban areas to remote communities.

Purpose Beyond Profit

Kwaku believed strongly in giving back to communities too. Under his guidance, miLife supported child immunization programs locally since its inception.

Since 2020 alone they have distributed educational materials to over650 schools nationwide while promoting financial literacy initiatives.

Under Kwaku's leadership,milife became more than just an insurance provider; it became a responsible corporate citizen serving its country well.

A Lasting Legacy

As Kwaku Yeboah-Asuamah steps down in May 2025 he leaves behind an even stronger company—more respected , trusted ,and human-centered than ever before .

He has built deep roots within Ghanaian society while preparing them for future challenges ahead .
