Academics excluded from suspension of post-retirement contracts - Minister - Ghana Business News

Haruna Iddrisu is the Minister of Education.

On Friday, he announced that public universities are exempt from a government decision. This decision suspended post-retirement contracts for public service employees.

Mr. Iddrisu stated that academics are not affected by this suspension. He spoke in Accra and clarified that universities can seek necessary approvals.

A statement dated April 2, 2025, was signed by Dr. Calistus Mahama. It declared an immediate suspension of all post-retirement contract appointments nationwide.

The statement directed an immediate halt to granting these appointments. It emphasized that requests for contract extensions would no longer be accepted.

It also urged full compliance with the new policy. All relevant authorities must adhere strictly to these instructions.
