Matilda Asante-Asiedu, Group Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank (Ghana) PLC, has urged West Africa’s banking sector to commit to digital transformation and fintech collaboration to drive financial inclusion and economic growth.
Speaking at the 15th Africa Bank 4.0 Summit – West Africa, she highlighted how mobile banking innovations, including microloans and savings platforms, are reshaping finance.
She noted that mobile money transactions in Ghana surged by 57.9% in 2024, outpacing traditional banking growth. Matilda stressed the role of AI in predictive banking, revealing that Access Bank now offers automated salary advance prompts.
However, she cautioned that digital expansion must be reinforced with strong cybersecurity and regulatory frameworks to maintain trust. The summit reinforced the urgency for financial institutions to embrace innovation and technological advancements.
