The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Accra, Mr. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has launched a new enforcement campaign. This campaign targets the Central Business District (CBD) of Accra. It aims to ensure compliance with the city's decongestion directives under the 'Red Line Policy.'
The enforcement exercise took place on Friday. It focused on major commercial areas like Kinbu, Tudu traffic lights, Makola 31st, and Rawlings Park. The area around the ECG office was also included.
These locations often experience congestion and lawlessness. Issues mainly involve commercial motorbike riders and unauthorized transport operators. The 'Red Line Policy' restricts operations in certain zones to improve order and safety.
MCE Allotey emphasized the importance of this policy. “We are determined to bring back discipline to the capital city,” he stated. He added that it is about enforcing laws for a clean and safe environment.
During the exercise, MCE Allotey oversaw the removal of unauthorized vehicles and traders. City officials issued warnings and citations to offenders. They advised them to move to designated transport terminals and trading areas.
Officials plan to continue this enforcement in the coming weeks. They will also extend it to other parts of Accra as part of an urban renewal strategy.
