The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat is calling for the elimination of non-tariff barriers that hinder economic participation among women and youth. During a recent forum, officials emphasized that reducing these obstacles is crucial to unlocking trade opportunities across Africa. Non-tariff barriers, which include excessive regulations and bureaucratic hurdles, disproportionately impact marginalized groups, limiting their ability to engage in business activities.
The AfCFTA aims to create a unified market with a population of over 1.2 billion people, but its success hinges on inclusive policies that empower all demographics. By addressing these barriers, the initiative seeks to enhance access to markets for women and young entrepreneurs, fostering innovation and economic growth. The Secretariat urged stakeholders to collaborate in creating an enabling environment that supports diverse participation in trade.
Promoting gender equality and youth involvement not only aligns with the AfCFTA’s objectives but also contributes significantly to sustainable development across the continent. As Africa continues to navigate its economic landscape, prioritizing inclusivity will be vital for achieving long-term prosperity.
