Alleged 'suspicious' planes grounded at KIA due to technical issues - Kwakye Ofosu

Two aircraft arrived in Ghana for legitimate reasons. They had different purposes.

The first aircraft, an Antonov flight 12BK, is a cargo plane. It landed on March 12, 2025. The landing permit number was GAF/TMAO/25/7863. This plane made a technical stop in Ghana. It was headed to the European Union market.

The Antonov came from Luanda, Angola. It carried oil drill equipment and lubricant oil in jerricans. Luanda lacks the certifications needed for EU entry requirements.

While in Ghana, the plane developed an engine blade fault. There was also severe oil leakage that required immediate attention. A replacement aircraft, URCEZ, was brought in to evacuate the cargo. The damaged plane stayed for 13 days.

Aviation security and other officials inspected it thoroughly. No contraband was found on board.

The second aircraft is a Hawker 800XP operated by AirMed International from Alabama, USA. Kwakye Ofosu explained this during a press conference. This plane landed at KIA on March 20 after traveling from Grand Canaria via Luanda.

It also made a technical stop for refueling and crew rest. This activity is completely legitimate and cleared with number GAFTWXR252604OFAA0297/25. However, while landing, it experienced a tire burst due to landing gear issues.

As a result, it needed servicing before continuing its journey.
