A fire in the Adum Central Business District affected at least 2,900 people. The incident occurred on Friday, March 21, 2025. Buildings, containers, and makeshift structures were severely damaged. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, provided this information.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded quickly to control the fire. Many shops suffered extensive damage due to the flames. Dr. Amoakohene noted that over 1,300 individuals can support themselves after the fire. However, around 1,500 people cannot meet their basic needs.

He emphasized that support is being organized for those in need. On Monday, March 31, he assured full assistance for affected individuals. His office is working with Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for psychological help.

Dr. Amoakohene mentioned that some victims visit his office seeking support. He stated that both government and volunteers are ready to assist them.

The Minister expressed concern about a new lorry station near the fire site. He ordered an immediate stop to its construction under the footbridge. He plans to engage with those involved in this activity.

During a visit on Saturday, March 31, he discovered this new station was being built without permission. He instructed local authorities to clear out any vehicles present there.

Dr. Amoakohene questioned who granted permission for this station's establishment. He vowed to prevent further encroachment that could lead to future disasters and will consider relocating them if necessary.
