Almost 3000 people were affected by Adum fire - Ashanti Regional minister - Channel1 News

A fire in the Adum Central Business District affected at least 2,900 people. The incident occurred on Friday, March 21, 2025. It damaged buildings, containers, and makeshift structures. Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene provided this information.

The fire caused significant damage to many shops. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded quickly to control the flames. Dr. Amoakohene noted that over 1,300 individuals can support themselves after the fire. However, around 1,500 people cannot meet their basic needs.

He emphasized that support is being organized for those in need. On Monday, March 31, he assured full assistance for the affected individuals. His office is working with Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for psychological help.

Dr. Amoakohene mentioned that victims are being referred to KATH for support. He also highlighted that volunteers are donating aid to those affected.

Additionally, he expressed concern about a new lorry station near the fire site. He ordered an immediate halt to its construction under the footbridge. Dr. Amoakohene engaged with those involved and instructed them to stop work.

He informed local authorities to clear out vehicles from the area immediately. He questioned who granted permission for this new station and plans further discussions on it.

Dr. Amoakohene aims to prevent future encroachments that could lead to disasters and will consider relocating any unauthorized operations if necessary.
