Former Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has praised his successor, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, for abolishing certain taxes introduced by the previous administration.

Speaking on The Point of View with Bernard Avle, Dr. Amin Adam welcomed the removal of taxes such as the betting tax and E-Levy, which were scrapped in the 2025 budget to ease financial burdens on Ghanaians.

However, he expressed concern over the increase in the Growth and Sustainability Levy on mining companies from 1% to 3%, warning that heavily taxing key economic sectors could be counterproductive.

“If the sector that gives you growth is the sector you are heavily taxing, then what kind of economics are you doing?” he questioned.

He emphasized that while taxation is necessary, overburdening the extractive industry could stifle investment and economic expansion.
