Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has called for Apple to remove its new generative AI feature after it created a misleading headline about a murder case. The BBC filed a complaint with Apple after the AI tool falsely suggested murder suspect Luigi Mangione had shot himself.

RSF expressed concern about the risks AI tools pose to media outlets, stating that the technology is not reliable enough for factual reporting. The error occurred as part of Apple Intelligence’s UK launch, which groups notifications to reduce interruptions.

Apple has not yet responded to the BBC’s complaint. The feature has also faced other inaccuracies with summaries of news articles.
