The NPP has criticized Dr. Asiama's involvement in the collapse of UniBank and UT Bank, which led to ongoing trials that were eventually dropped.

During the swearing-in ceremony for Dr. Asiama and Dr. Zakaria Mumuni as First Deputy Governor, President Mahama defended the appointment, emphasizing the need for experienced leadership.
