Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has rejected calls to use taxpayer funds to recapitalize the Bank of Ghana (BoG) after it recorded a ¢60 billion deficit. Speaking on March 11, he insisted that BoG must find internal solutions rather than rely on a ¢53 billion bailout from public funds.
Forson suggested that BoG cut expenditures, sell non-essential assets like guest houses, or lease back its new Head Office to raise funds. He emphasized that a bailout would divert resources from critical infrastructure like roads, schools, and hospitals.
Despite his firm stance, he expressed openness to negotiations if BoG proposed a reasonable cost-cutting strategy. He assured that Governor Addison is aligned with this approach.
