The Piggery for Jobs initiative has launched a modern piggery and meat processing factory in Barekese, Ashanti Region, to address Ghana’s growing pork demand and reduce reliance on imports.
A collaboration between Piper Pretty Limited and the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ), the project aims to strengthen the piggery value chain, boost local production, and create jobs.
Over 700 farmers have been trained in husbandry, biosecurity, and social protection practices, improving standards across the sector. The factory, with a capacity to process 35,000 pigs annually, ensures stable markets for farmers and quality pork for consumers.
Additionally, robust disease control measures like African swine fever management are prioritized. Part of Germany’s Invest for Jobs initiative, the project will create 300 new jobs and promote sustainable economic development.
