Be guided by sound governance principles -Minister urges TDC Board

Ken Gilbert Adjei, the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, addressed the new board of TDC Development Company Limited. He urged them to follow innovative and sound governing principles. Their goal is to provide accessible and affordable housing solutions for Ghanaians, especially underserved communities.

During the inauguration in Accra, Mr. Adjei highlighted a major challenge. He noted that infrastructure costs hinder housing affordability. The current model requires TDC to pre-finance utility infrastructure for agencies like the Electricity Company of Ghana and Ghana Water Company.

This practice significantly raises development costs. Mr. Adjei encouraged the board to develop a comprehensive national policy framework. This should include cost-sharing mechanisms, targeted government subsidies, fiscal incentives, and public-private partnerships.
