Economist Courage Boti has urged Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson to intensify enforcement against businesses evading taxes to address Ghana's revenue mobilization challenges without imposing new taxes.
Speaking on PM Express Business Edition on January 23, 2025, Boti argued that strict compliance could improve the tax-to-GDP ratio and support government expenditure.
He emphasized that Ghana already has numerous taxes, and enhancing compliance would generate sufficient revenue.
His comments follow concerns about potential revenue losses of GH₵10 billion annually due to the planned removal of the e-levy, betting tax, and COVID-19 levy, as announced by Dr. Forson.
While the Ghana Revenue Authority exceeded its 2024 tax revenue target by 5.2%, National Chamber of Commerce CEO Mark Badu Aboagye warned against new taxes, urging fair taxation practices across the business sector.
