The Bank of Ghana's gold reserves have increased significantly.
As of April 2025, they reached 31.7 tonnes. This is up from 8.78 tonnes in May 2023.
This increase represents about 264.4 percent over two years.
The BoG launched the "Gold for Reserves" program in July 2021.
This initiative is part of the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme. It aims to diversify the asset portfolio and strengthen foreign exchange reserves.
Under this program, the BoG buys locally produced gold with local currency at market prices.
