Bolt, a ride-hailing company, has cautioned its drivers against offline trips, citing safety and security risks for both drivers and passengers.
Senior Operations Manager, Henry Whyte, expressed concerns over the growing trend, especially in Kumasi, where drivers bypass the app to negotiate fares due to rising fuel prices.
He emphasized that such trips prevent Bolt from tracking rides and offering assistance during emergencies.
Speaking at Bolt's Driver Safety Summit in Kumasi, Whyte stressed the importance of addressing rising incidents of theft and accidents reported by drivers and riders. The summit also tackled pricing issues to improve driver earnings.
Ashanti Regional DVLA Director, Amos Abakah, highlighted measures to ensure accountability, including mandatory registration of digital transport operators, safety policies, complaint resolution systems, and transparent pricing frameworks.
