CABI’s Dr. Victor Clottey Urges Stronger Regional Institutional Support to Address West Africa’s Food Insecurity

Dr. Victor Attuquaye Clottey is the Regional Director for West Africa at CAB International (CABI). He recently spoke about food insecurity in West Africa on Metro TV.

He emphasized the need for regional institutions to address this challenge. Both government and private sectors need proper tools and training. Policy support is also crucial to combat threats to food systems.

“No single country or institution can tackle food insecurity alone,” Dr. Clottey stated. He stressed that coordinated efforts are necessary for resilience in food value chains.

Collaboration among research institutions, agricultural services, and trade organizations is vital. This ensures innovations and best practices are shared across borders.

West Africa faces many pressures, including climate change and conflict. Dr. Clottey believes CABI can help build regional capacity for farmers.

“We must strengthen systems that provide timely information and market opportunities,” he added.

CABI is a not-for-profit organization that supports agriculture through science-based solutions. Its work includes plant health clinics and digital advisory services in West Africa.

Dr. Clottey's comments highlight the need for regional integration in addressing food security issues. This comes as ECOWAS and other groups develop frameworks for agricultural transformation.
