The Bono Regional Office of Ghana COCOBOD has intercepted three heavy-duty trucks carrying bags of cocoa and lumber, suspected to be smuggled to neighboring Burkina Faso, Togo, or Côte d’Ivoire.
The trucks, with registration numbers GR 7237-21, AS 5278-23, and GR 314-24, were impounded in Nkrankwanta, Dormaa West District, following a tip-off.
The drivers, who covered the cocoa with lumber to evade detection, fled the scene, leaving the trucks in the custody of the Forestry Commission (FC) in Sunyani.
Michael Paddy Kwasi Asumanu, COCOBOD’s Bono Regional Administrator, stated that legal steps are being taken to claim ownership of the seized cocoa.
Deputy Bono Regional FC Manager Emmanuel Ntiako noted that details of the confiscated lumber are still pending.
