The Customs Brokers Association of Ghana (CUBAG) held its 2024 Annual General Meeting in Tema under the theme "Together Towards Tomorrow, Innovating Pathways to Success."
The event convened industry stakeholders to discuss modernizing Ghana's trade facilitation system and fostering collaboration in a shifting global trade landscape.
Keynote speaker Emmanuel Ohene, Deputy Commissioner of Operations at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), highlighted customs brokers' critical role in trade facilitation.
He lauded the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS) for improving clearance processes and revenue collection while emphasizing the importance of technology, training, and partnerships to streamline operations.
CUBAG President Nana Fredua Ofori-Atta reflected on the association’s achievements amid challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and global protectionism.
He advocated for industry-wide climate action plans and greener transport infrastructure to meet sustainability goals.
The AGM also underscored the importance of supporting SMEs, which comprise most of CUBAG’s membership, and called for unity against rival factions. Esther Gyebi-Donkor, chairperson for the event, urged greater collaboration to enhance port and maritime efficiency.
