The Cashew Traders and Exporters Association of Ghana has urged government intervention to address unauthorized foreign buyers disrupting the local market. These buyers, posing as exporters, allegedly purchase cashews at inflated prices of GHS20-25 per kilogram, far exceeding the official rate of GHS15 set by authorities.
National Organizer Kwabena Owusu highlighted that these buyers also acquire unripe cashews, compromising quality standards and risking Ghana’s international reputation. The Association warns this practice destabilizes the market, threatens local traders, and could lead to industry collapse.
They are appealing to President John Dramani Mahama's administration to enforce fair trade regulations and pricing guidelines to protect farmers and businesses. Immediate action is deemed crucial to safeguard the industry’s sustainability and reputation.
