As of December 5, 2024, the Ghanaian Cedi is trading at 14.9125 to the US Dollar (buying) and 14.9275 (selling), showing marginal gains against major currencies.
The Pound is at 18.9464 (buying) and 18.9668 (selling), while the Euro is at 15.6984 (buying) and 15.7125 (selling). This marks a slight improvement from December 4, when the Cedi was weaker at 15.1074 to the Dollar.
However, analysts, including Dr. John Kwakye from the Institute of Economic Affairs, question the sustainability of this resurgence. He attributes the recent appreciation to the Bank of Ghana's intervention ahead of the elections, not improved economic fundamentals, suggesting that the real test will come after the election.
