China-Ghana mining partnership: Chinese Amb. Tong Defa envisions bright future for ACGM

The Association of China-Ghana Mining (ACGM) was officially established. A ceremony marked this event, attended by key stakeholders from both nations. This reinforces the growing economic and trade ties between China and Ghana.

Ambassador Tong Defa of China addressed the audience. He celebrated this milestone for cooperation in mining. Ambassador Tong emphasized that ACGM's creation is a pivotal step for both countries.

“This is a new chapter for China-Ghana economic relations,” he stated. He congratulated the establishment of the Association and acknowledged past support for mining collaborations.

Tong expressed gratitude to Ghana’s leadership, especially President John Dramani Mahama. Several cabinet ministers attended the event, highlighting Ghana's commitment to its partnership with China.

Ghana has valuable mineral resources like gold, bauxite, and lithium. Ambassador Tong noted significant Chinese investments in Ghana’s mining industry over the years. These investments have contributed billions of dollars and provided technical cooperation.

He mentioned that Chinese enterprises also train young Ghanaian talent. The Ghanaian government has optimized its mining policies for resource use and environmental protection.

Ambassador Tong believes ACGM will strengthen communication among governments, businesses, and local communities. It will serve as a bridge for win-win cooperation between China and Ghana.

Looking ahead, he outlined five areas where ACGM can make an impact:

1. **Promoting Standardised Development**: The ACGM should guide members to comply with local laws and create jobs through value-added production.

2. **Enhancing Information Sharing**: Stronger exchanges on policies, market trends, and innovations are needed to improve operational efficiency.

3. **Strengthening Technical Cooperation**: Deepening cooperation in technology, training, and green development is essential.

4. **Fostering Community Development**: Mining cannot thrive without local community support; social responsibilities must be prioritized.

5. **Protecting the Ecological Environment**: Environmental protection is crucial; balance between mining development and sustainability must be maintained.

In conclusion, Ambassador Tong reiterated that mining cooperation is vital for economic relations between China and Ghana. He expressed continued support from the Chinese Embassy for ACGM's efforts.

He hopes this establishment fosters mutual trust between businesses from both nations while contributing to Ghana’s growth. “I wish the Association a prosperous future,” he added.

This event marks a new era of collaboration focused on sustainable mining development in both countries.
