Coca-Cola has issued a recall for a variety of drinks, including Coke, Fanta, Sprite, Tropico, and Minute Maid, due to potential contamination with chlorate, a chemical linked to chlorine-based disinfectants used in food processing and water treatment.

The recall affects select products from the company’s Belgian bottling operation, particularly imported cans of Appletiser, Coca-Cola Original Taste, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Diet Coke, and Sprite Zero, identified with production codes between 328 GE and 338 GE.

Although independent experts deem the risk to be low, the company has proactively alerted authorities and withdrawn most unsold products.

Exposure to high chlorate levels can cause health issues, particularly for children.
