Ghana’s cocoa production has declined by nearly 50% over the past three years, significantly impacting the economy and export commitments.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, presenting the 2025 Budget Statement, revealed that COCOBOD failed to supply 330,000 tonnes of cocoa in the 2023/2024 crop season, forcing a rollover to the new administration.

He stressed the urgent need for policy interventions to reverse the decline, given cocoa’s critical role in Ghana’s economy.

Acknowledging concerns from industry stakeholders, Dr. Forson assured Parliament that government measures would boost productivity and stabilize cocoa exports to safeguard the sector’s future.
