Ms. Julie Essiam, the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has officially tendered her resignation to the President through Finance Minister-designate Cassiel Ato Forson.
Appointed by former President Akufo-Addo in March 2024, Essiam has led the GRA’s efforts with a focus on revenue collection and operational efficiency.
In a heartfelt letter dated January 20, 2025, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, highlighting significant achievements, including exceeding the 2024 fiscal revenue target by GH¢6.978 billion.
Under her leadership, the GRA saw a 35.3% revenue growth over 2023 and achieved a Tax to GDP ratio of 17.0%.
However, she emphasized the need for further transformation, particularly in implementing IMF structural benchmarks and advancing digital tax systems.
Essiam praised past leaders, including former President Akufo-Addo, Vice President, and former Finance Minister, for their support during her tenure.
The GRA, established in 2009, combines several revenue agencies to ensure compliance with tax laws and foster sustainable economic growth.
