CUTS International, a consumer advocacy group, has raised concerns over persistent issues in Ghana’s telecommunications sector, including poor reception, frequent call drops, and slow internet speeds.

Speaking at the launch of the State of the Ghana Consumer Report 2025 on World Consumer Rights Day, Lawyer Appiah Kusi Adomako, West African Regional Director for CUTS, likened Ghana’s internet speed to the stop-and-go movement of trotro minibusses.

The report revealed that nearly 60% of respondents cited poor reception as a major issue, with a 28% call drop rate and unpredictable data consumption. Additionally, about 25% of consumers spend less than GHC50 monthly on data and voice calls. The event at Alisa Hotel in Accra provided a platform to highlight these challenges and push for reforms in Ghana’s telecommunications sector.

Adomako emphasized the need for improved service quality, urging regulators and telecom companies to address consumer frustrations. He called for greater transparency in data usage, better infrastructure investments, and enhanced network reliability to ensure consumers receive fair value for their money.
