Customs raked in GH¢45.27bn last year

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) collected GH¢3.94 billion more than expected. This represents a 9.5 percent increase in revenue.

At his farewell ceremony in Accra, former Customs Commissioner Brigadier General Zibrim Ayorrogo shared that the division grew by 47 percent in 2023. Last year, GRA met its tax target, collecting GH¢153.5 billion. This amount was 5.3 percent above the target of GH¢145.8 billion.

The record achievement resulted from strategic reforms and technological advancements. The dedication of staff and stakeholders also played a key role.

Brigadier Ayorrogo noted that the division faced challenges while improving efficiency and service delivery. He emphasized their crucial roles in revenue mobilization, trade facilitation, and national security.

The farewell ceremony included heads of security agencies, staff, and Brigadier Ayorrogo's family. Deputy Commissioner General Anthony Kwasi Sarpong praised Ayorrogo for his leadership and contributions to the nation.

Sarpong stated that this event marks both an end and a new beginning for Ayorrogo due to his expertise. He expressed appreciation for Ayorrogo's commitment to public service.

Ayorrogo thanked the government and management for their support during his tenure. He called it a privilege to serve the nation.

He highlighted a successful collaboration with the Customs Staff Association and University of Cape Coast. Together, they launched Master's programs in Customs Administration for officers' professional development.

Newly appointed Customs Commissioner Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan expressed gratitude to the government for his appointment. He pledged to serve with integrity, dedication, and excellence.

Annan also committed to adopting emerging technologies to improve operations within the Customs Division. He plans to maintain an open-door policy prioritizing staff welfare.
