Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has reiterated that the government must repay GHS150.3 billion in domestic debt over the next four years, a legacy of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) from the previous administration.
Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV, he highlighted major repayment obligations, with GHS57.6 billion due in 2027 and GHS52.5 billion in 2028.
Dr. Forson also addressed the energy sector crisis, revealing that the government has allocated GHS28 billion in the 2025 budget to support the sector, which faces annual shortfalls exceeding $2 billion.
He warned that failure to intervene could lead to severe disruptions, emphasizing that these challenges were inherited from the previous administration.
