Deputy Finance Minister nominee Thomas Nyarko Ampem has called for a non-partisan approach to discussions on the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) payments during his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on February 24, 2025.
Ampem stressed the importance of focusing on the positive market signals these payments send and reassured investors of the government's commitment to meeting its obligations, which he said will boost investor confidence and stabilize Ghana’s financial sector.
He noted that the Ministry of Finance has already fulfilled a Payment-In-Cash coupon of GHS6.081 billion and deposited GHS3.46 billion as Payment-In-Kind into bondholders’ accounts.
Additionally, a Debt Service Recovery Cedi Account has been built up with GHS9.7 billion for upcoming coupons. Further measures to enhance transparency and restore market confidence will be introduced in the 2025 Budget.
