Renowned economist Prof. Peter Quartey will deliver a lecture on March 13 at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS), analyzing Ghana’s debt accumulation, investment patterns, and economic growth under the theme: Debt, Investment, and Growth in Ghana: Did We Borrow to Consume?
The lecture will examine Ghana’s rising debt-to-GDP ratio, which peaked at 82.9% in 2023, alongside declining capital expenditure. Prof. Quartey will assess whether borrowed funds have been used productively for investment or primarily for debt servicing and consumption.
As the Director of ISSER, with expertise in monetary policy and development finance, his insights will be crucial for policymakers amid Ghana’s ongoing economic challenges. The lecture is part of GAAS’s prestigious inaugural series and is open to the public.
