Minister Emelia Arthur, the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development and MP for Shama expressed optimism that aquaculture advancements will offer year-round fishing opportunities and create more youth jobs.
She announced that the Anomabo Fisheries College is nearing completion, which will help reduce post-harvest losses in beneficiary communities. During a tour of the Central Region, she visited R&B Farms, a 32-hectare earthen pond facility at Gomoa Nsuem operating under the Aquaculture for Food and Jobs Programme.
The Minister commended the farm’s initiatives and stressed the need for collaboration to transform Ghana’s aquaculture sector into a sustainable and profitable industry.
R&B Farms' Director of Operations, Benjamin Turkson, and Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng urged the government to leverage aquaculture to combat unemployment and curb illegal mining.
