Brigadier-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, Acting Director-General of GPHA, has called for the removal of VAT and COVID-19 levies on transit cargo to enhance Ghana’s competitiveness as a regional trade hub.

Speaking during Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe’s visit, he warned that high levies could push businesses to rival ports in Lome and Abidjan.

A joint GPHA-GRA team recently studied operations in these ports to improve Ghana’s efficiency. The Director-General emphasized digitalization, resilience, and fairness in operations. Minister Nikpe assured stakeholders of discussions to remove the levies, supporting President Mahama’s economic agenda.

The visit, which included stops at Meridian Port Services and Tema Shipyard, focused on port expansion and modernization to position Ghana as a leading maritime gateway in West Africa.
