Don't use God's name for wealth - Catholic Archbishop - Ghana Business News

The Most Reverend John Bonaventure Kwofie, the Catholic Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, has given important advice. He urged church members not to misuse God's name for personal gain.

"There are those making millions improperly in God's name," he said. "I will be very sad if this is true for my dear Catholics."

He shared this message during a homily on Good Friday at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra. He emphasized that Jesus Christ sacrificed His life to save humanity.

"We are missionaries today," he stated. "We must proclaim the good news and act on what we learn." He encouraged everyone to take action after Mass.

Most Rev. Kwofie reflected on Good Friday's significance. “What is good about this Friday?” he asked. It is a day of mourning for the death of Jesus Christ.

He explained that Christ suffered to take away many sins without retaliation. “In His last moments, He said, 'Father, forgive them,'" he noted.

The Archbishop urged Christians to forgive one another as true followers of Christ. “Jesus thirsted not for water but to fulfill God’s mission,” he added.

The congregation wore black, red, or brown outfits to signify mourning. They prayed for unbelievers and those who forget Christ's help in their lives.

They also prayed for the church's progress and for public and private workers. Members touched parts of a crucifix while praying, symbolizing Christ's passion.

The Cathedral was calm with soft hymns playing in the background during the veneration of the cross.

Mr. Emmanuel Ashong, a businessman, shared his thoughts with the Ghana News Agency. “I won’t miss Good Friday because it helps me reflect on my life,” he said.

Ms. Elora Tening, a student, expressed her feelings about attending Good Friday mass. “It feels like I should cry because of what Christ endured,” she said.

She believes it's a time for God to forgive her sins and grant her desires. The service included hymns like "Though your sins be as scarlet" and "Old Rugged Cross."
