Don’t celebrate yet, declined T-bill yields artificial – IPPA to Finance Minister

The Institute of Public Policy and Accountability (IPPA) has warned Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson against celebrating the recent decline in treasury bill rates, describing the drop as artificial.

In a statement, the IPPA noted that the lower yields could lead investors to seek safer, higher-yielding options like the US dollar—posing a threat to the stability of the cedi.

The institute emphasized that Ghana's core fiscal challenges remain unresolved, particularly low revenue collection and high borrowing for consumption.

Stanbic Bank CEO Kwamina Asomaning echoed similar concerns, saying the falling T-bill rates have added pressure on the cedi.

IPPA called for fiscal discipline and urged collaboration with the Bank of Ghana to prevent further currency instability and capital flight.
