Don’t default on our debt repayments – Akufo-Addo advises incoming Finance Minister

In his final State of the Nation Address on January 3, 2025, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reaffirmed Ghana's commitment to meeting its financial obligations.

He announced the disbursement of $346 million to Eurobond holders and urged the incoming finance minister to prioritize timely debt repayments to preserve the nation's fiscal credibility.

President Akufo-Addo also called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to prioritize completing the Agenda 111 hospital projects.

Launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, the initiative aims to bridge healthcare gaps by constructing 111 district and regional hospitals, including psychiatric facilities. While significant progress has been made, many projects remain incomplete.

Describing the initiative as transformative, Akufo-Addo emphasized its potential to improve healthcare access and strengthen the nation’s health infrastructure. He highlighted ongoing work at 99 active sites, expressing hope for its completion under the new administration.
