Dr. Philip Oti-Mensah is the new Managing Director of Universal Merchant Bank (UMB). He began his role today, April 16, 2025.
Before this appointment, Dr. Oti-Mensah was the Chief Operating Officer at OmniBSIC Bank. He also served as Executive Director there for several years.
About Dr. Oti-Mensah
Dr. Oti-Mensah is a dynamic business leader with over 20 years of experience. His career includes leadership roles across Africa in Banking and Development Finance.
He has led and advised many financial institutions. His work shows a strong track record of transformation and innovation. Notable positions include Management Consultant for FINCA Bank Tanzania and Deputy CEO of ProCredit Ghana.
As Executive Director at OmniBSIC Bank, he integrated systems after a merger. He also led a customer experience transformation program to strengthen the bank's position.
Dr. Oti-Mensah holds a Bachelor of Science in Banking and Finance from the University of Ghana Business School. He earned an MBA in Project Management from the same institution.
Additionally, he has a Master of Applied Business Research and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Swiss Business School. His executive education includes programs from INSEAD (Singapore) and London Business School (UK).
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). He is also a Certified International Change Manager (CICM) with a postgraduate diploma in International Bank Management from ProCredit Academy in Germany.
His contributions to finance have earned him several awards. These include the President’s Award for Excellence in Banking and Finance (2020) and Private Sector COO of the Year (2023).
Beyond corporate leadership, Dr. Oti-Mensah speaks internationally on Leadership and Financial Inclusion. He serves on the boards of several reputable institutions in Ghana.
