President John Mahama has signed several bills into law. This includes the E-Levy Bill.
The Electronic Transfer Levy (Repeal) Bill 2025 is now law. It removes a tax many Ghanaians wanted gone since December 2024 elections.
The tax was introduced in 2022 and faced strong opposition. Many believed it added financial burdens on citizens. Critics argued it hindered financial inclusion, but the government persisted.
In March 2025, Parliament approved the repeal bill. This effectively abolished the digital tax on electronic transactions. This included Mobile Money, bank transfers, and remittances.
Initially, the tax charged 1.75 percent on transactions. Later, it was revised to one percent. Many Ghanaians called it a "senseless tax." Its removal provides significant relief to citizens and puts money back in their pockets.
