The Ashanti South Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched the second phase of its Loss Reduction Project to combat power theft and address meter shortages.
This initiative involves replacing old postpaid meters with advanced smart prepaid meters equipped with tamper-proof features to prevent illegal power consumption and reduce revenue losses.
The project also aims to improve meter accessibility for consumers, addressing long-standing shortages. It includes private sector participation, with suppliers assisting in the installation of the new digital meters that allow online power purchases for greater convenience.
During the launch, Project Manager Mrs. Tamara Asomani Wiafe highlighted the initiative's focus on enhancing transparency and efficiency in power consumption.
About 205,000 meters will be replaced in the Asokwa District, helping ECG maximize revenue and minimize system losses.
