ECG missing containers: We need to finetune procurement processes - Issah Atta

Issah Atta Issah Atta

Issah Atta, the Member of Parliament for Sanarigu, has called for a careful review and refinement of Ghana’s procurement processes following the issue of missing containers from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

In an interview on The Big Issue on Channel One TV, Atta highlighted the importance of scrutinizing the contracts behind such issues. He pointed out the troubling increase in single-source procurement contracts, which surged from 33 in 2012 to 425 by 2024.
Atta also raised concerns over discrepancies between planned and actual procurement expenditures, citing a significant overspend in 2023 that ballooned from a planned GHS935 million to GHS8 billion.

He urged for better procurement practices to avoid future inefficiencies and losses.
