Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has inaugurated a seven-member committee to develop a roadmap for the privatization of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Chaired by former Bui Power Authority CEO Jabesh Amissah-Arthur, the committee aims to establish a financially sustainable and efficient model for Ghana's power distribution, including the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo).
This initiative follows a PwC report highlighting ECG’s net loss of 5.96 billion cedis and a debt of 47.2 billion cedis. Mr. Jinapor emphasized the need for accountability, transparency, and stakeholder cooperation to reform the sector effectively while prioritizing local participation.
The committee, comprising experts such as Benjamin Boakye and Dr. Simon Akorli, has one month to propose solutions to improve ECG's operational efficiency and financial health.
