ECG rolls out real-time data system to boost power reliability in Ashanti Region

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched a new digital platform. This platform collects real-time data from five major power stations in the Ashanti Region. The goal is to improve electricity supply and operational efficiency.

The system is being deployed at five Bulk Supply Points: Anwomaso, Ridge, Konongo, Obuasi, and Dunkwa. Each station now uses specialized computers to send live hourly updates to ECG’s System Controller. This allows technicians to detect faults quickly and respond promptly to changes in electricity demand.

Ing. Andrews Owusu Peprah, Operations Manager for Ashanti Sub-Transmission, commented on the change. He said it is a significant improvement over the old manual system. The previous system was slow and often had errors.

The upgrade replaces a manual process that caused human errors and delays. By automating data collection, ECG aims to reduce risks and improve accuracy. This will enhance the reliability of insights gathered from the field.

Ing. Peter Kofi Fletcher, General Manager for Ashanti Sub-Transmission, emphasized their commitment to better service delivery. He stated that this initiative aligns with ECG’s larger plan for reliable power across the country.

The new platform may serve as a model for future digitization efforts in other regions. ECG is moving toward a more responsive and technology-driven energy management system.
