Mr. Adama Soro, President of the West Africa Federation of Chambers of Mines (EFEDCOM), has called for regional collaboration to unlock West Africa's mining potential.
Speaking at the EFEDCOM General Assembly, he emphasized the need for synergy among member countries to position the region as a global leader in sustainable mining. Despite abundant resources, fragmented efforts and weak frameworks from ECOWAS and WAEMU have hindered progress.
Mr. Soro proposed a unified mining regulatory framework, strategies to manage artisanal small-scale mining, and innovative financing mechanisms. He also suggested launching a flagship regional mining event to attract global stakeholders.
Drawing lessons from successful collaborations worldwide, he urged collective action to build resilience and shared prosperity. EFEDCOM aims to lead this transformation, ensuring a legacy of sustainable growth for future generations.
