Experts are calling for a people-focused economic reset in Ghana as inflation continues to impact households, particularly through rising food prices.
Despite claims of recovery, inflation remained persistently high in 2024, reaching 23.8%, severely affecting over 60% of public sector workers earning less than GH¢3000 monthly.
Economist Prof. Godfred Bokpin emphasized that Ghana's economic policies have failed to address the needs of ordinary citizens, leading to growing inequality.
He advocates for policies focusing on food security, income inequality, and economic growth that benefits the average Ghanaian. Bokpin warns against “jobless growth” and stresses the need for structural transformation and ecological sustainability.
He supports adjusting the IMF program to align with public needs and reimagining development to prioritize human development over macroeconomic indicators.
