Economist Professor Godfred Bokpin has warned that Ghana's economy has worsened since joining the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program, emphasizing that an early exit in 2026 could destabilize the country.

He noted that Ghana's economic struggles are now more severe than when the country first sought IMF assistance.

Prof. Bokpin cautioned that prematurely leaving the program could deter investors seeking long-term stability. He also highlighted Ghana's limited access to international capital markets until 2027, stressing the need for a careful recovery approach.

Additionally, he criticized Ghana's tax system, revealing that only 41% of the economy contributes 86% of tax revenue, and recommended better taxation of high-net-worth individuals to boost government revenue.
