Professor Godfred Bokpin of the University of Ghana Business School has stated that Ghana's economy is still a long way from fully recovering from the shocks of the COVID-19 pandemic.
While some recovery has occurred, he emphasized that key indicators, such as the exchange rate and interest rates, have not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels.
He described the recovery process as "expensive" and noted that further work is needed to restore the economy fully.
This view contrasts with President Akufo-Addo's comments on November 20, 2024, where he cited recent data showing Ghana's economic recovery, including a 6.9% GDP growth in Q2 2024, reduced inflation, and a trade surplus of $2.78 billion.
The President highlighted these achievements as evidence of Ghana's resilient path forward.
