Editorial: Significant investment in GBC will boost production

The company’s production volumes have significantly increased.

Production rose from 1.3 million tonnes to about 1.8 million tonnes in 2024.

General Manager Mr. Alexander Gyedu credits this milestone to Ofori-Poku Company Limited (OPCL).

OPCL took over GBC from Bosai Group in 2022.

This acquisition led to major changes, including new equipment.

As of February 2025, OPCL acquired 42 new earth-moving machines.

They also purchased 52 dump trucks and 16 utilities.

Additionally, they added one surface miner and 35 light-duty vehicles.

A second surface miner is expected by the end of June 2025.

GBC aims for a production target of 6 million tonnes by late 2025.

The company is committed to environmentally responsible mining practices.

New equipment and technology will help reduce their environmental footprint.

GBC's expansion plans will positively impact the local economy.

Mr. Gyedu stated that the company follows regulatory standards closely.

They submit reports to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as required.

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources urges mining companies to protect the environment.

The EPA collaborates with Ghana Bauxite Company Limited on compliance issues.

GBC’s Awaso Mine concession spans an area of 47.04 sq.km.

Their ratified Mining Lease covers several districts for a duration of 30 years.

Bauxite was first discovered in Ghana in 1921 by a geological survey team.

In 2024, GBC exported a record 1.8 million metric tonnes of bauxite ore globally.
